At Rainbow Children’s Village, we believe every child deserves to be seen, understood, and given the opportunity to learn in a space where they can thrive — no matter their background, ability, or circumstance.

This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we are reflecting on what true inclusion means — and celebrating an incredible act of kindness that reminded us that community care can move mountains.

A Year of Uncertainty Turned Into a Season of Hope

2025 has been a challenging year for many families in the Jerusalem Informal Settlement and for us as an organisation. Rising costs and shrinking resources placed immense pressure on our ability to continue providing education for the children in our Educate-a-Child programme — especially those who are neurodivergent and need specialised schooling and consistent support.

When we reached a point of real uncertainty, something extraordinary happened. Two compassionate partners, Hot Cares (an initiative of Hot 102.7) and Silverstar Casino, heard our story and responded with open hearts.

Their generous contribution of R64 000 covered our full school-fee shortfall for 2026, ensured every child could continue attending Sparrow Schools. They also created space for joy with an additional R20 000 to create a Christmas celebration for the children, and a further R20 000 to equip them for the 2026 school year with stationery and essentials.

A generous total Christmas donation of R105 000!

For our children, this isn’t just financial support. It’s the gift of a stable future full of hope.

Why Inclusive Education Matters

Many of the children supported by Rainbow Children’s Village live with neurodiversity, some are on the autism spectrum, others live with ADHD, learning differences, or developmental delays. For them, specialised education is not an extra; it’s essential.

Inclusive education means a chance to grow in confidence, to be understood, and to discover strengths that the world too often overlooks.

That’s why this donation means so much. It ensures that our children continue receiving the care and education they need, in an environment designed to help them reach their full potential.

Gratitude That Shines Brighter Than Any Christmas Light

As we celebrate 20 years of Rainbow Children’s Village, we’re reminded that miracles often happen when communities come together. The kindness shown by Hot Cares and Silverstar has lifted a heavy burden from our shoulders, and given 23 children a future filled with possibility.

To everyone who continues to walk alongside us, our sponsors, volunteers, donors, and friends, thank you. You remind us that love, when shared, creates ripples of change far beyond what we can see.

This Christmas, and on this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we celebrate not just a donation, but a declaration:
Every child matters. Every child belongs. Every child deserves a chance to shine.

Join us in keeping the rainbow shining.
