As the school year gets underway, many families are preparing for a familiar routine of uniforms, stationery, and school runs. But for many vulnerable children, going back to school is not a given — it’s something that only becomes possible with the support of people who care.

At Rainbow Children’s Village, education is one of the most powerful tools we have to change a child’s life trajectory. Through our Educate-A-Child (EAC) Bursary Fund, we currently support 19 neurodiverse children from vulnerable backgrounds to access quality education, stability, and the specialised support they need to thrive.

Right now, a small group of children still need sponsorship for the year ahead. This is where you can make a tangible, life-changing difference.

Why Education Matters at Rainbow Children’s Village

For the children in our care, education represents far more than academic progress. It offers:

  • Stability and routine
  • A safe and supportive learning environment
  • Skills that build confidence and independence
  • Hope for a future filled with opportunity and dignity

Through the Educate-A-Child bursary, we help cover the essential costs that make learning possible, including:

  • School tuition
  • Transport to and from school
  • School uniforms and stationery

If you choose to sponsor a learner, you’ll also receive termly updates and school reports, allowing you to follow their progress and see the impact of your support firsthand.

Meet the Children Who Still Need Sponsorship

Kitso | Grade 1 | Sparrow Schools

Kitso is an adventurous sensory seeker with a big imagination and an even bigger love for life. He spends hours drawing, is fascinated by cars, and lights up whenever there’s a dog nearby. While social situations can be challenging for him, his joy shines through when he’s playing and exploring the world. With the right educational support, Kitso has the opportunity to thrive in an environment designed for neurodiverse learners.

Tshepiso | Year 3 | Sparrow Schools

Tshepiso has been part of the Educate-A-Child bursary programme since 2018. When he first joined, he was shy and struggled with reading and writing. With time, patience, and the right support, his confidence began to grow. After briefly trying mainstream schooling, Tshepiso chose to return to Sparrow Schools, where he is now thriving. He especially enjoys skills-based learning in Hospitality and Wholesale & Retail and loves playing soccer outside the classroom.

Letlohonolo | Grade 6 | Sparrow Schools

Letlohonolo is a determined and thoughtful learner who believes that reading makes her mind stronger. She loves English and enjoys school, where she feels encouraged by her teachers. Living with her grandparents, she attends aftercare to get the quiet support she needs to complete her homework. Since joining the Educate-A-Child bursary programme, Letlohonolo has made remarkable progress, gaining confidence and improving her academic results. She also enjoys playing netball and trying new sports.

This year marks his very first year in “big school.” One of his proudest achievements so far has been making a friend — a small but meaningful milestone that reflects his growing confidence. With the right support, Danistan is learning to feel safe, settled, and excited about school.

Two Additional Grade 1 Learners | Sparrow Schools

Sparrow Schools has approached Rainbow Children’s Village to support two additional Grade 1 learners who urgently need access to specialised education for neurodiverse children. With your support, we can fund these learners and expand the Educate-A-Child programme to include many more children who need access to quality education.

About Sparrow Schools

The majority of our Educate-A-Child learners attend Sparrow Schools, a remarkable network of schools dedicated to supporting neurodiverse learners. Sparrow provides high-quality education at a fraction of the cost of comparable schools, guiding learners from Foundation Phase through to College, where they gain practical, job-ready skills. For children who are ready for mainstream schooling, we support that transition wherever possible — always with the goal of long-term independence and dignity.
