Every child deserves a safe, well maintained place to call home.

This Youth Day, Rainbow Children’s Village is launching our Youth Day Maintenance Fund, an appeal to help us make essential repairs and improvements to the safe house where our children live, learn, and grow.

For many of the children in our care, Rainbow Children’s Village is more than just a place to stay. It is a place of safety, stability, belonging, and hope. It is where children who have experienced abuse, trauma, and abandonment can begin to rebuild their confidence and dream about the future.

As our facilities age and everyday wear and tear takes its toll, important maintenance projects are needed to ensure that our children continue to have a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment.

Why This Matters

Youth Day is a time to celebrate the potential, resilience, and dreams of South Africa’s young people. It is also a reminder that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in an environment that supports their wellbeing and development.

When children have a safe home, a warm bed, a functioning bathroom, a secure environment, and spaces where they can learn and play, they are better able to focus on what matters most: being children.

By supporting our Youth Day Maintenance Fund, you are investing directly in the wellbeing of the children who call Rainbow Children’s Village home.

Our Maintenance Priorities

We are raising funds to complete a number of important projects across the Village.

Our kitchen is the heart of the home, where meals are prepared and shared every day. Planned improvements include:

  • New countertops
  • Removal and replacement of old tiles
  • Installation of a gas hob
  • Repairs to taps
  • New window treatments
  • Painting of doors and window frames
  • Kitchen floor repairs

Children’s Bedrooms – R6,000

Every child deserves a comfortable and welcoming space of their own.

Funds will help us:

  • Paint beds and cubby holes
  • Add shelving and shoe storage
  • Install new blinds
  • Purchase new duvet inners
  • Purchase fitted bed sheets

Children’s Bathroom – R4,500

Projects include:

  • Repairing water supply pipes

  • Installing a new shower curtain and rail
  • New window treatments
  • New bath towels

Adult Bathroom – R2,500

Planned maintenance includes:

Office Repairs – R35,000

The administrative office plays a vital role in supporting our programmes and operations. Repairs include:

  • Roof repairs
  • Damp proofing

  • Installation of donated laminated flooring
  • Sliding door repairs

Home Security – R12,000

Keeping our children safe is our highest priority.

Funds will help us:

  • Service and upgrade our security systems
  • Install additional security cameras

Gas Geyser – R30,000

This project will replace an ageing electric geyser with a more efficient gas-powered solution, helping to reduce long-term costs and improve reliability.

Solar Power – R95,000

Load shedding and electricity interruptions can significantly impact daily life at the Village. Installing solar panels and batteries will help ensure a reliable power supply while reducing operating costs over time.

Lounge Furniture Donation Needed

We are also seeking the donation of a three-seater couch, scatter cushions, and blankets to create a more comfortable and welcoming living space for our children.
